Water-resistant projected capacitive touchscreens

PCAP in waterproof applications

Projected capacitive touchscreen technology (PCAP) is increasingly being used in areas where water resistance plays a major role. This area of application used to be dominated by resistive technologies, but is gradually being replaced by PCAP technology.

Projected – Interelectronix capacitive touchscreens can be optimally used outdoors thanks to their vandal resistance, completely impermeable surfaces and water-resistant seals. Christian Kühn, Glass Film Glass Technology Expert
Frequently used applications are, for example, POI or POS systems, which must be both very robust and moisture-resistant.

ACCURATE TOUCH FUNCTIONALITY IN RAIN AND WET CONDITIONS

The functionality of Interelectronix 's projected capacitive touchscreens is not impaired even in heavy rain.

To achieve this, we use application-specific optimized controllers that prevent raindrops from being counted as touch. By precisely tuning the controller, it is possible to distinguish between a pulse caused by a raindrop or a finger.

The projected capacitive touchscreens from Interelectronix fully guarantee the multi-touch function both in wet environments and in direct contact with water.

The sensitive, multi-touch-capable sensor of the touchscreen is safely protected behind the glass surface. The seamless, waterproof seals from Interelectronix impress with their high resistance and resulting long service life.

REQUIREMENT-SPECIFIC GLASS SURFACES

Interelectronix specialises in the development of touchscreens that have to meet unusual requirements, for example in terms of temperatures, vandalism, moisture and moisture or even chemicals.

Especially in outdoor areas, but also in industrial environments, a robust glass surface is often used that cannot harm salt water, acids, moisture or heavy rain.

Tempered glass, such as aluminosilicate glass or borosilicate glass, is very robust and neither salt water, nor acids or alkalis on the surface can harm these two glasses.

In addition to an often desired resistance to moisture or permanent moisture, vandalism also plays an important role. Therefore, when choosing the type of glass and the glass thickness, scratch resistance and impact resistance are also explicitly taken into account.

AREAS OF APPLICATION

Not only outdoor kiosks or industrial plants whose working environment has moisture need touchscreens with optimized waterproofing and flawless functionality in wet conditions.

Industrial plant control systems also benefit from the waterproof properties. For example, it is possible to wet clean the display during operation without causing incorrect entries due to swiping.

Interelectronix can also supply the water sports and marine sector with perfectly matched PCAP touchscreens.
